Just South of Newport Beach is a Jewel of a town called Corona Del Mar. The Corona Del Mar Beaches are adjacent to the south end of the harbor of Newport Beach which makes them basically invisible to most tourists that visit. That is what makes Corona del Mar such a jewel of a town. You can enjoy the festive atmosphere of Newport Beach, and can escape to the serene beaches just south of the Jetty wall.
There are large angular rocks on the beach and small coves similar to the landscaping of Laguna Beach, but in comparison, these beaches are almost empty. The downtown is charming and the locals there have a pretty tight knit community. They plan their own events and have their own social clubs, in my opinion, Corona Del Mar is one of the nicest places to live in Orange County.
There are some amazing old fashioned cottages, and mansion estates bunkered side by side, which makes even walking the neighborhoods a treat. The waves are normally small here, so there are less surfers and body boarders in the water as well. The tide pools are speckled with starfish, mussels, and sea anemone.
If you go to Corona del Mar, check out the gardens, parks and for an upscale movie experience, check out the Port Theater. It’s fun just to browse about the shops, most are family owned and offer a unique experience.
