- Remove bedsheets and pillow cases.
Before you start cleaning, make sure to remove the bed sheets and pillowcases first and wash them separately. Remember to change your bed and pillow coverings on a regular basis to keep dust and debris out.
- Vacuum the mattress.
Now it’s time to get your vacuum and make sure to cover all parts and surfaces of the mattress, including the sides.
- Spot-cleaning
After you’ve washed your bedsheets and vacuumed your mattress, concentrate on removing spots with a stain remover, all-purpose cleaner, or any other cleaning agent. Use a small amount and apply it exclusively to the affected areas. Wipe off the surface with a clean cloth and then a cold-water-soaked cloth. Repeat these processes until the surface is completely clean. To remove stains, use a cloth or rag instead of directly applying the cleaning agent to the mattress.
- Apply baking soda.
To absorb moisture and eliminate odors, sprinkle a thin coating of baking soda over your mattress. Allow it to sit for several hours and then open your windows to allow more air to circulate.
- Vacuum again.
After you have applied the baking soda for hours, vacuum your mattress thoroughly until it is clean.
- Flip and repeat.
When you’ve finished with step 5, flip your mattress over and repeat steps 1 through 5.
